How I got into the porn industry

I started watching documentaries on couples who had websites that they made money from. One of the documentaries was called 'private parties' on the documentary channel. One couple in particular (don't remember what show it was on) was Dawn's place. They were Canadian and were making at the time of the episode 50 grand/month. I was shocked. WTF?? If they could do it.. I could do it. One problem. I didn't have a husband who wanted to be in porn.. never mind a boyfriend who did. Every guy I was involved with during this venture wasn't on the same page as me. They obviously didn't mind my escorting but being directly involved in the sex industry... nope!

I contacted Dawn as well as another girl who never responded and Dawn agreed to host my website and gave me very minimal guidance. She started out with layouts for Score magazine and got her notoriety that way. I wasn't ready yet to be so exposed.

I had taken my website advertising down and a bit of a hiatus from escorting and only had had pics up of me minus my head.. like a lot of girls do. So many guys would email me to say they missed my pics and I realized they didn't really care about my head! Could I make a members site without showing my face? I gave it a shot.

I videoed with costumes and masks or filmed with clients from the neck down. The vids are pretty crappy now.. and back then I had a hi-8 camcorder. Digital wasn't readily available yet.

After a year or so of wearing wigs and doing webcam shows on camz I got fed up and decided to go the whole way. I told Dawn and she put me in touch with her photographer in the states who had done her magazine layouts.

I went to the US to shoot for Girls over 40, Juggs, 40 plus and over 40. This is when I first got into trouble at the border (April 2007). I was turned away when they realized I was going to be 'working without a permit' but after 3 hrs of awful interrogation I went home.. called my friend Angela and we rented a car to go across the border the next day. (I didn't want my license plate to register another attempt at a crossing). We got over the border successfully and headed to Albany. We saw some clients in the hotel I rented and each day I went to poukeepsie to the studio to do the layouts. Each layout took 3-4 hrs to shoot and an hour for makeup. The outfits I wore were pre-approved before I went down.

The following January the first one came out and I was so excited to be cover and centerfold. I wasn't ever able to shoot for Score group unfortunately because since Dawn's time shooting there Canadians are no longer allowed to shoot there (florida) on american soil. The only way for them to shoot me is to come up here (yeah... not financially feasible for them) or in the bahamas. (that I would love) Hey.. maybe you could all contact Score and bug them to shoot me!

It's fucking stupid how we Canadians and Amercians can't travel freely back and forth from one country to the other. We're practically the same people!

So.. by now the magazines of course aren't as popular as they used to be because in the meantime while I was debating getting fully into the industry the internet had well taken over and online pics/vids were so much easier to jerk-off to than mags :)

I didn't get as well known because of this when the mags came out as Dawn had.. but it was hilarious to me that my Girls over 40 magazine with me on the cover was at almost all the 7-11's so I warned my brother not to look during that time or he'd see me!

After that I made more attempts to do porn and make connections in the industry. I met with a company in Ottawa several times (5DTV) but ended up only shooting some joke lady stuff telling dirty jokes in lingerie for other people's porn. They told me they'd build a bunch of movies and a website around me but we eventually only shot one masturbation scene.

I had some personal issues that made me feel like perhaps moving back to Toronto was a good choice and that perhaps I would have better luck there shooting porn.

I moved there in the fall of 2007 and in January headed to Vegas for AVN for my first time. LA direct had corresponded with me via email but then didn't follow up
with me to meet at AVN. Then I ran into the couple from Ottawa who run the 5DTV network I had been joke lady for. Even though I hadn't yet shot any movie for them... I stood for some time at their booth and signed autographs. I wasn't really known yet though of course.. so it was kind of funny but people still came to get an autographed photo. But I did meet some cool people in the industry and was introduced to some video companies from LA all of whom said to let them know when I was in LA.

The people I did meet - Tony Batman who's still a good friend and Terry from Floating world who graciously introduced me to so many other people in the industry showed me a good time and introduced me to the Venetian circle bar hang out where all the porn actors and fans mingled evenings during the convention.

I went to a couple really fun parties but nothing really concrete developed for me. Once back in Toronto I finally got to hook up with a company that did a shoot with me for Cable in Toronto. Naughty Canadians (I) which ended up being my very first real porn movie. The original movie I shot with Mary Taylor (previously a strip for your partner instructor at the Canadian sex shows) ended up on the cutting room floor. This was my first experience learning how not to shoot porn :) It was shot with no backup talent and 1/2 had never shot any porn before.. so either couldn't perform or didn't show up. Mary had promised to shoot a whole Milf series around me but I only ever got that one movie done and she did the 2nd one in the series and as far as I know gave up after that. Not realizing she's bitten off more than she could chew I guess.

People often suggest to me that I produce my own porn and I've tried.. believe me! it's not as easy as it looks.. mostly because of the male talent which I'll get to now. During all this time while I was trying very unsuccessfully to get movies made in Canada.. I tried to have male talent shoot with me for my website. It seemed that most of the guys I had any chemistry with and also had ability were only willing to shoot with a mask on. The guys willing to do anything with me weren't for me personality or skill wise. Girl/girl was okay but really doesn't sell as well as hardcore. It wasn't til I got back from LA I found that fetish porn is the money maker. More on that later (jerkygirls).

Film #2. The fellow I had shot Naughty Canadians with I requested. I had seen him do his scene with my friend Monika Maple in the first movie that never got finished and wanted him! James Gray. Wonderfully goodlooking, built and sweet as they come. Nice smile, great body and awesome fuck.

5DTV in Ottawa finally got their act together and shot Dazed and Cumfuzed with myself, James and the now retired Amber Moon. I got to play the owner of a student boarding house and had a bunch of fun making that movie. My 2nd in Toronto and my only other proper Canadian porn film.

I met a webdesigner near Toronto online through the adultwebmasters conference and we went to work on a proper site for me. She put me in touch with a girl in Arizona who had an adult website for foot fetish and a blowjob site with her husband and we had so much in common that I planned a trip down there to visit her and plan my next step in porn. She was going to help promote me at Adultcon, AVN etc and we brainstormed. She had 4 yorkies (which is why I have 2 now) that I fell in love with and I spent about 6 or 8 weeks there with her that fall. Travelled to Florida to work with Girlzinc (much earlier blogs you can read about) and then back to New York for more magazine shoots.

Came back home and went once more to AVN in Jan 2008. This time I was way more comfortable in that environment as I'd made friends the year before and more online on myspace, adultspace and xpeeps.com

I arranged some content exchange shoots this time as well and shot 4 scenes.. 2 of which I never received from the other parties. Note to self: don't shoot content anymore unless you have your own camera man!

One of the couples I shot with (Porno Dan and his then wife Kira Silver) invited me to come to LA. I jumped at the chance and in February flew down just before Valentine's day. Kira and Dan were in the midst of separating and she was lonely amoungst other issues so it was pretty uncomfortable staying there. Long story but I lasted 2 weeks before telling her I had to find another place to live and rented a room from a fellow I met at my agent's office who did softcore porn.

Burbank was a delight! Dan took me the first day I was there to an internet cafe and I swear practically everyone on the walk to there said hi to me! I loved that cafe and ended up there virtually every day. It was right around the corner from PSK (pornstarkaraoke) so I could have lived there forever easily.

Kira set me up on my shoot with Sledgehammer and then introduced me to an agent who ended up being a complete idiot. Thankfully Jim South of world modelling re-entered the industry. I went for an interview and loved him immediately. He was a no bullshit charming man who had been in the industry for many years and made me laugh with his southern accent and jokes.

He set me up with all the shoots for naughty america and the other MILF movies I did while in LA. Meanwhile I spent every Tuesday night at PSK hanging out with my friends in the industry and singing my lungs out. I spent the other days lounging by the pool at the place I was at for a month in Encino and at the beach and shopping in LA.. hard life.

For my last month in LA I rented a room with Sledgehammer in Chatsworth and we went out to a few clubs/porn parties. Porn doesn't pay as much as most people think and Sledge also had a job doing construction so I didn't see him alot.

I averaged only one shoot/week so my money was running out. I wasn't yet known so wasn't in that high of a demand. As well not as many companies shoot MILF porn as do the 18 yr old girls.. for the simple reason that there's a new crop of 18 yr old girls entering porn every week whereas MILF don't enter porn nearly as often so it's hard for agencies and companies to focus on them.

If I were able to legally get back to LA though I would in a heartbeat. I'm obviously known now as my porn has made it around the world on the internet and I've made a bunch of good friends there as well as having gotten to know the area very well. I rented a car while there and bought a GPS or I would never have been able to tour it all so successfully hitting one mall after another :)

I returned May 1st to Toronto to my apt in Etobicoke and waited for the movies to come out. My friends hot mom was out already in April before I left LA and I was a hit. The guy I shot with was lame as they get. He barely spoke to me and seemed off in another world (probably on drugs in my opinion or at least hung over from using them the night before) and I had really hoped to be shooting with Christian who I had a major crush on. Anyone who knows me knows what a people person I am so it was a strain to shoot with that guy. Good acting on my part eh? lol

So my name was getting around and I was contacted by jerkygirls to see if I'd shoot for them. They were the number 1 site on clips4sale and low and behold they shot in Kingston! A little over 2 hrs from Toronto and my old home town! I lived there for several years during university and a couple prior.

I missed Ottawa and toured back there to see some friends and my clients on occasion. I would shoot for 2 hrs with jerkygirls on the way there or on the way back and shoot 5 or 6 clips during that time. They were a major pleasure to shoot for. Unlike some of the other shoots I'd done they were super well organized, had clearly thought out scripts and costume ideas and were very respectful. I was literally in and out of there in 2 hrs time.

I shot for them about 6 or 7 times I'd guess and then they closed up shop about 2 years ago in Kingston.. leaving only there Florida studio open. About 6 months ago they opened up again in Kingston but because the porn industry has taken such a hit from all the free downloading they want 4 hrs work for the same rate. I can't justify it as I'm still making a very comfortable living escorting and I also don't travel back and forth from Toronto anymore. I moved back to Ottawa 1 1/2 years ago and frankly hate the drive. Plus the 2nd 2 hrs of shooting is solo work and I'm not into it. No cock.. no fun :)

So that's the short version! I've been in the industry really only 2 years but dabbled for about 2 before that.

How long do you plan to stay? Also Have you had any hollywood/indie film interest from other people? You write a fascinating story.

Carrie...pretty interesting...actually, could make a good book.
I basically just skimmed it, but plan to read it through later... I liked the part about first entering the U.S. ("working without a permit" - lol).
Anyways...hoping you had a Merry Christmas, Happy Boxing Day (or whatever the phrase might be), and Happy New Year...

@beerbarrel. I don't have a planned expiry date or exit date from either the escort industry or porn.. although I make my living from escorting. Porn really doesn't pay.. which sucks.

No. I haven't been approached by mainstream if that's what you're asking. I'd love to write for something similar to belle de jour's stories about her career. The show 'secret diary of a callgirl' rocks! I didn't read her book but I read her blog and I think they took some major artistic license with the show after the 1st season.
